Firmy Nissan i PlayStation® po raz czwarty połączyły siły, by zorganizować GT Academy, innowacyjny program szkoleniowy, w którym przestrzeń wirtualna splata się z rzeczywistością. Podczas gdy poprzednia czwórka absolwentów GT Academy szykuje się do serii wyścigów na najwyższym poziomie, które odbędą się w roku 2012, program, który wprowadził ich na drogę gwiazd sportów motorowych, zostanie rozbudowany i teraz będzie łączyć w sobie cztery niezależne turnieje obejmujące Niemcy, Rosję, pozostałe kraje europejskie oraz USA.
Od 2008 roku ponad 1,5 miliona pełnych nadziei uczestników próbowało szczęścia w GT Academy, a uczniowie programu zmieniającego marzenia w rzeczywistość jak dotąd dotarli do podium wieńczącego 24-godzinny Le Mans, wygrali międzynarodowy Le MansCup oraz BlancpainEndurance Series. W styczniu tego roku zwycięzcy poprzednich starć zebrali się, by zapisać się na kartach historii zdobyciem podium 24-godzinnego wyścigu w Dubaju.
Zupełnie nowy tryb gry dla GT Academy Europe będzie dostępny na żywo od 02 maja aż do 26 czerwca 2012 roku. W programie obejmującym osiem kroków kwalifikacyjnych, w którym online może grać każdy posiadacz PlayStation®3, podstawą będzie doskonale sprzedające się Gran Turismo®5, specjalnie dostosowane przez legendarnego twórcę gry, Kazunoriego Yamauchiego.
Najszybsi gracze z każdego kraju dołączą do zwycięzców wyścigów na żywo, aby rywalizować w ekscytujących narodowych finałach, które odbędą się w czerwcu. Potem akcja przeniesie się z wirtualnego świata PS3 do prawdziwych, sportowych nissanów, gdy zwycięzcy narodowych eliminacji będą uczestniczyć w zaciekłej rywalizacji podczas Race Camp, który odbędzie się w sierpniu na torze Silverstone.
Zwycięzcy każdego z konkursów RaceCamp GT Academy zostaną poddani niezwykle intensywnemu i szczegółowemu Programowi Szkolenia Kierowców, który przygotuje ich na główną nagrodę -udział w 24-godzinnym wyścigu w Dubaju w styczniu 2013 r.
GT Academy jest teraz uważana za jedną z dróg do sportów motorowych najwyższego poziomu. Lucas Ordoñez (Hiszpania, zwycięzca z roku 2008) zajął drugie miejsce w 24-godzinnym wyścigu Le Mans w 2011 r. i będzie walczył o więcej w tegorocznym wyścigu wraz z Alexem i Martinem Brundle'ami,duetem ojciec - syn. Lucas weźmie także udział we wszystkich wyścigach Le Mans Series w samochodzie Greaves Motorsport Zytek-Nissan LMP2. Jordan Tresson (Francja, zwycięzca z roku 2010) będzie się ścigał w FIA World Endurance Championship oraz w 24-godzinnym wyścigu Le Mans, prowadząc samochód Signatech Nissan LMP2. Jann Mardenborough (Wielka Brytania, zwycięzca z roku 2011) będzie prowadzić Nissana GT‑R Nismo GT3 podczas Blancpain Endurance Series,a jegoamerykański odpowiednik, Bryan Heitkotter, wsiądzie do Nissana 370Z Nismo RC podczas Grand-Am Continental Tire Sports Car Challenge Series w czołówce klasy GS (Grand Sport).

About GT Academy Europe
GT Academy is a collaboration between PlayStation® and Nissan that uses the virtual world of the Gran Turismo® game to unearth real-world racing talent. Now in its fourth year, GT Academy has been expanded to include separate competitions for Europe (UK & Ireland; France; Italy; Spain & Portugal; Benelux; Austria, Switzerland & Poland), Germany, USA and Russia.
Stage One (European GT Academy)
A bespoke, online GT Academy qualification will be open to anyone with a PlayStation®3 (terms and conditions apply), where the fastest 16 gamers in each participating territory may gain access to the National Finals. A maximum of 16 further competitors will also gain access to National Finals events via a series of Live Gran Turismo®5 events.
Stage Two (European GT Academy)
For GT Academy Europe, up to 32 qualifiers from ‘Stage One' will progress to each territory's National Final, where the top six will compete to progress to the GT Academy Race Camp at Silverstone.
Stage Three (European GT Academy)
In a new development for 2012, each territory ‘Race Camp' winner will have the opportunity to compete a national level race in a Nissan car.
One winner from the European GT Academy competition will be crowned 2012GT Academy Champion and will be invited to go through to the intensive Driver Development Programme for the chance to qualify for an international race licence in order to qualify for the chance to compete in the Dubai 24 Hour race in January 2013.
Previous GT Academy winners
Previous winners of GT Academy are now regular racing drivers. In 2012 Lucas Ordoñez (Spain, winner in 2008) is contesting the European Le Mans Series and Le Mans 24 Hours in the Greaves Motorsport Nissan-powered LMP2 car; Jordan Tresson (France, winner in 2010) is contesting the FIA World Endurance Championship and Le Mans 24 Hours in the Signatech Nissan LMP2 car; JannMardenborough (UK, winner in 2011) is racing a Nissan GT‑R GT3 in the Blancpain Endurance Series.
